Description
Origin & Quality
This beautiful 3-inch grape agate cluster was discovered in the Mamuju area of Sulawesi, Indonesia, the only known locality for this unique mineral. Classified as A-grade for its rich lavender-purple color, strong luster, and clean spherical formation, this piece showcases the best characteristics of grape agate.
Geological Background: Grape Agate
Despite its name, grape agate is not a true agate but a botryoidal form of chalcedony — a microcrystalline variety of quartz. It forms when silica-rich solutions deposit in vesicles, slowly crystallizing into rounded aggregates that resemble clusters of grapes. These clusters can exhibit purple, lavender, green, or even blue tones, depending on trace mineral content.
