Description
Striking Visual Elegance
This elegant Sodalite Point is polished to a fine termination, showcasing intense deep-blue tones threaded with stark white veins. Its refined shape highlights the rich contrast and is ideal as a focal point in any decorative or contemplative space.
Formation & Geological Origins
Sodalite is a feldspathoid mineral that forms in silica-deficient, sodium-rich magmas, such as nepheline syenite and phonolite. Its name reflects its sodium content—combining “soda” and the Greek “lithos” (stone). The striking blue hue, often interlaced with white calcite veins, is due to its unique chemical composition and formation environment.
Global Sources
Once first identified in Greenland’s Ilimaussaq complex, Sodalite’s finest deposits were later discovered in Ontario, Canada—notably at the Princess Sodalite Mine near Bancroft. Additional notable sources include Quebec, Maine, Arkansas, Brazil, Namibia, Russia, China, and parts of Portugal.
