Description
These Bluebird Turquoise nuggets display vivid blue tones and natural nugget form making them highly sought after by artisans and collectors.
Origin and Location
Sourced from the Baviácora Mine near Cumpas in Sonora Mexico these nuggets are also known as Cumpas Turquoise. This mine lies in the arid copper rich terrain of northern Mexico where turquoise has formed for centuries.
Geology and Formation
Bluebird Turquoise develops when copper rich groundwater reacts with phosphate bearing rocks depositing turquoise in clay rich cavities rather than veins. This creates compact nodules with vibrant colors and occasional pyrite or host rock inclusions.
Uses and Applications
Bluebird Turquoise nuggets are versatile and commonly used for:
– Jewelry such as beads cabochons and pendants
– Woodworking including filling voids and inlays in live edge slabs
– Epoxy Art like resin river tables countertops and sculptures
– Decorative Crafts including mosaics and artisan inlay projects
Care and Durability
With a Mohs hardness of 5 to 6 turquoise should be handled gently to avoid scratches. Keep away from harsh chemicals or prolonged sunlight and store in a dry shaded place to maintain its natural color.
